Short Bio

Dr. Anderson has been a municipal child care planner, developer and coordinator for over 20 years in Redwood City, California. She has assisted other cities and child care advocates to write child care policies and develop child care-friendly practices. Her book, Planning for Child Care in California, published in 2006 by Solano Press Books, provides information for professional planners and community developers, policy makers and child care advocates on: the early care and education system and why it requires and deserves support; addressing child care in long-range planning; reducing land use policy barriers; how cities/counties support child care development; and strategies for and examples of linking child care with development of housing, employment and transportation. She has participated in the Local Investment in Child Care (LINCC) Project (www.lincc-childcare.com) since 1997, assisting with methodology development for early economic impact reports on child care, and well as use of the reports for engaging partners in building the infrastructure to support child care facilities development in California.
