Short Bio
Lauren Breen directs the Community Economic Development Law Clinic at the University at Buffalo Law School. She also teaches courses in the area of nonprofit corporations, tax exemption and community economic development. Prior to teaching, Ms. Breen was an associate attorney at Hiscock and Barclay and a legal Services public benefits attorney. At UB, Ms. Breen’s work focuses on post welfare reform economic self sufficiency strategies, with an emphasis upon access to the Earned Income Tax Credit and quality child care. In 2005, Ms. Breen was chosen to participate in the first class of the National Women’s Law Center Progressive Leadership Advocacy Network. She currently co-chairs the Massachusetts Avenue Project, a Buffalo-based economic development corporation, and the Economic Self-Sufficiency Coalition of Western New York, through the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. Ms. Breen also serves on the Empire Justice Center board of directors, formerly the Greater Upstate Law Project, which champions the legal rights of low income people throughout New York State. She is a past President of Neighborhood Legal Services and will begin tenure as President of the Child Care Resource Network in January 2007. She received a J.D. from the University at Buffalo Law School and an A.B. from Georgetown University.
